We spent almost a month road tripping and exploring through the incredible country that is Norway. If you haven’t seen the plethora of Norway content we’ve shared on our Instagram or the guides we have posted.. we definitely encourage you to take a look and we think it may just inspire you to book a visit. During our road trip through the Vestland and Aurlandfjord region (see road trip here) we visited the charming little fjord town of Undredal. This guide will showcase a few beautiful shots from our visit, and show you why it should be on your road trip!
Things to know when visiting Undredal
When you head down towards Undredal, you’ll likely come from one of 2 directions, either from Odda/Bergen/Gudvangen, where you turn left before you get to Flam/Aurland, or you will venture down from Laerdal direction where you pass Flam/Aurland and turn right towards Undredal. Head down the road and around the fjord to the tiny town of Undredal.
When you drive down into the valley Undredal will greet you with beautiful fjord views and a picturesque little Nordic town with colourful buildings. The town itself is tiny and can be walked in 30 minutes, but the real charm of this tiny town isn’t walking the streets.. it’s having a coffee or beer by the harbour with incredible fjord views. You wouldn’t need to stay the night here, but we think it’s the perfect location for a one night stay at the end of a big day trip (like we did).
We recommend you look to arrive at latest mid-late afternoon. The general store closes around 6pm, and the only restaurant in town a little after that. We’d encourage you to try and arrive before this if you want food in the town.
The main things to do in Undredal would be to walk the town, enjoy the incredible fjord views, sit by the harbour for a drink, visit the famous Undredal church, try some of the goats cheese, grab some food at the restaurant by the water, hire a kayak and paddle the fjords, visit the smallest fire station in Europe, or relax in the Undredal Nordic sauna by the water.
So is Undredal worth visiting? We think so! It’s charming, picturesque, and definitely worth a visit, even as a day trip through the region!
