A visit to Dean Village – Edinburgh

Dean Village Edinburgh UK things to do

Want to step away from the busy Edinburgh old town to a calm, quiet little village? Dean Village is an old riverside village with a unique charm. Situated only 20-30minutes walk from the heart of Edinburgh, it is the perfect addition to your adventures in the Scottish capital. While it’s not more impressive than the Golden Mile or Edinburgh Castle, it offers something different, and is great for those staying in the city for more than a few days.

What to do when you visit Dean Village:

This small town is very little, and can be explored in an hour or so. There are however a few things you should ‘tick off’ when you visit. The number one thing to do when you visit is wander the pretty riverside streets, soak in the ‘old Scottish feel’, and take some gorgeous photos.

Make sure you check out the Leith River Walk which heads up to the Waterfall. You should also wander the town, poke your head in to Well Court, and make sure to stop at the Main Bridge (Bell’s Brae Bridge). On the way down to Dean Village from the Edinburgh New Town, stop at Cairingorm Coffee or Fauna for a good coffee in an aesthetic space. If you want to hang around the area a little longer, you could walk up to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

How to get to Dean Village:

The best way to get to this pretty little town is walking. It should take you about 20-25 minutes to walk from the Scott Monument, or 30 minutes to walk from the Royal Mile.
