Food Markets of London

Borough market london uk street food

London is a foodie paradise, with so many multicultural cuisines. Options vary from street food to fine dining, with everything in between. However, our favourite place to grab a bite to eat in London was the varied food markets. London does markets very well! We visited at least 6 of the great food markets around London and think that you should check them all out.. and more! Take a look at some of our recommendations below (and let us know your favourites)!

Best Food Markets of London:

Borough Market [must visit]

The Borough Market was one of our favourite things to do in London, and had some damn tasty food! With a history dating back over 1000 years, this place has history and feels ‘legit’. There are numerous artisanal food vendors and market stalls, and almost all of it looked good. We had to try the popular Ginger Pig sausage rolls.. and they were incredible! The spicy lamb option was one of the best things we tried in London! Located a short 5 minute walk from London Bridge, this is a ‘do not miss’ for your visit to London.

Camden Market [MUST VISIT]

Our second favourite market was in Camden! Set up in old horse stables, the Camden Market is a maze of good food vendors, interesting shops, and unique sights. This market is one of the most popular attractions in London, and the stalls sell everything from tasty food to crafts, clothing and trinkets. Located just out of the heart of the city, you can walk the 30-45 minutes, or catch a 15-20minute metro train getting of at Camden Town. We recommend you head out here for lunch and explore. We enjoyed the multicultural food and would definitely visit again.

Seven Dials Market

This upmarket food market is definitely worth visiting, and has a different atmosphere than the other markets on this list. Situated much closer to the action in the heart of London, this modern market offers a slick and sophisticated experience. The history of the market will show that in the 19th century it was a warehouse storing bananas and cucumbers, a far cry from the set up today! Whether for food, or just for a drink, Seven Dials Market really comes to life particularly after work and into the evening. Keep your eyes open for a seat as it can be busy all days of the week! Seven Dials is also located in the perfect place to visit before or after a West End show! Despite the ‘up market’ makeover, the prices are reasonable. It’s definitely worth a visit!

Covent Garden Market

Covent Garden Market is in the heart of ‘Touristy London’, but is worth checking out. Easily accessible by walking from many of London’s top attractions, this market is a great activity to add into your day exploring the city. The food vendors weren’t our favourite, but the cute shops, street entertainers, and overall vibes were worth seeing! Many of the stalls sell handmade goods and the food is often artisan stalls. Whilst not a ‘must see’ like Borough or Camden markets, it’s still a lot of fun!

Hatton Garden Leather Lane

Hatton Garden is famous for being the jeweller district of London. However when we visited the area we stumbled upon a bustling street food market. The Leather Lane market was perfect for a nourishing take away lunch. The stalls offer food from around the world, with the market running Monday to Friday 10am-4pm. Don’t go out of your way to get here, but if you’re in the area and want a tasty street food feed.. this is a good option!

Berwick Street Market

The Berwick Street Market was another local market offering good take-away food. Located in the ‘happening’ Soho, it was fun to wander, with lots of food stalls. There seemed to be another local food market in every suburb, all offering good multicultural food at budget friendly prices! Whether you come for a feed, or just for the experience, this was another good street market to check out.
