Located a short 5-10 minute drive out of Wanaka is the gorgeous little Albert Town. Situated along the Clutha River in the direction of Hawea Lake, this is a must stop on your Wanaka road trip.

In particular, on a sunny day, or during autumn, don’t miss walking along the Lake Wanaka Outlet Track (Albert Town End) at the river nearby, where the autumn trees line the banks of the river. A narrow trail winds alongside the river, and locals jump into the fast flowing waters to cool off. We enjoyed the walk along the trail, and basked in autumn sun, Ky decided to jump in for a swim. We can advise anyone considering a swim that the current is fast, so stick to the shallows or only get in if you are a strong swimmer. The moments relaxing here combined with the stunning autumn colours made it a gorgeous little ‘escape’ and one of our favourite parts of our visit to the region.

Additionally, bakery lovers must stop at the amazing Pembroke Patisserie. Is it the best bakery in Wanaka? Probably! Packed with locals and road trippers alike, this bakery has incredible pies, and a huge range of breads, savory baked goods and lots of sweet treats. You know we stopped for something to eat here!
