Castello Vicchiomaggio – A night in Tuscan Paradise

Castello Vicchiomaggio tuscany

When we pictured staying in Tuscany, we imagined a villa situated on a hill with a winding drive up to it. We envisaged staying nearby little Tuscany towns. And of course we expected to drink amazing wine with stunning views of rolling hills. Our accommodation at Castello Vicchiomaggio delivered this and more.

Castello Vicchiomaggio was an impressive old Tuscan tower and villa with history dating back to 1400s. It was situated on the top of a hill in the chianti area, a famous wine region of Tuscany. Located close enough to popular Tuscany towns like San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and Siena, Castello Vicchiomaggio offered amazing views of rolling hills in the Greve Valley.

Highlights:
  • The views: the stunning views of rolling Tuscany hills were incredible, and definitely the highlight of our stay.
  • The Infinity Pool: an infinity pool boasting the views we have raved about? Tick! This was one of the most picturesque swims of our life.
  • Price point: we believed our stay was reasonably priced, especially when compared to Australian prices for a similar level of luxury and experience. Note that this is definitely not a budget option, but a well-priced option for those looking for a great stay in Tuscany.
  • Breakfast views: okay, this is similar to the aforementioned point about the view. However, if you stay, get the breakfast, and sit in the gardens enjoying the stunning views. It was a wonderful experience.
Cons:
  • The Restaurant was situated in incredible gardens of the villa, however was only open Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat for dinner. We stayed on Sunday meaning that it was unfortunately not open. We still had a wonderful ‘picnic’ dinner with wine we sourced from a local town, however it is worth noting.
  • Need to have a car: the location of Castello Vicchiomaggio isn’t particularly close to any public transport routes, thus hiring a car would be your best option to get here.

Want to check out Castello Vicchiomaggio but not stay the night? The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner on some nights, and would offer you wonderful views.
