Drone Diaries #1

Half Moon Bay Shipwreck

Welcome to the first edition of Drone Diaries! This will form the first series of snapshots and highlights taken from our newest travel companion, a DJI Mini 2. Ky has long wanted a drone to help document adventures and travels, and the DJI Mini 2 fit the bill for a variety of reasons. Some of the key features which helped differentiate between other models included:

  • DJI stood head and shoulders above the other models during our research as a travel/hobby photo drone.
  • The price point (below $1000 AUD, many other models >$1500 e.g. DJI Mavic)
  • The weight of the done – at <250g, it fits excellently into travel carry-on and into your back-pack when travelling
  • The drone features were well matched to other comparisons

The one feature we feel is missing is the “follow” feature, reportedly due to no obstacle avoidance, howevere there’s ways to work around this. So far, we have been impressed with the image and video quality, and can’t wait to trial it overseas.
