Want to visit a region that offers Italian lakeside charm mixed with minimal tourists at a budget friendly price tag? Enter Passignano sul Trasimeno! Situated on the border of Tuscany in the underrated region of Umbria, this laketown is definitely worth visiting. Such is the underrated nature of Passignano sul Trasimeno that many non-Italians haven’t heard of it (and actually some Italians we spoke to as well!). A little historic old town is perched on the Lago Trasimeno, mixing charm with picturesque views. Located in close proximity to Perugia, Montepulciano and Siena, Passignano strikes us as the lake town that the locals visit on the weekend, for day trips, or for summer.

Ky visited during his road trip in Umbria, staying one night. While the town is small, there is enough to do to warrant a stay, or at least a day trip. There’s a multitude of good eateries and cute places to have a vino or coffee. Plus the promenade is excellent for a walk, ride of cycle. For those that enjoy sailing, Campo del Sole is a harbour filled with boats that the locals take out (and you can hire.. we think!).

While we don’t have a huge amount of recommendations due to the short nature of our stay, here a 3 places worth checking out in Passignano sul Trasimeno:
- La Rocca di Passignano Sul Trasimeno: Perched at the top of the historic town, this offers the best views of the lake. Wander the cute historic streets up to the top and enjoy the views.
- Gelateria Bar Birreria: Situated right on the edge of Lago Trasimeno, this bar / café is the perfect spot for a coffee in the sun, or a beverage at sunset.
- Pasticceria Canalicchio di Dogana S&F: This bakery is highly rated, and for good reason! Home to the best baked goods in the town, don’t miss this during your day trip!
