Is this the best beach on Bruny Island?

bruny island day trip should i visit things to do hobart

Bruny Island is the untouched little slice of paradise located a short drive and ferry (~60mins) from Hobart. Home to a plethora of nature, wildlife, local cuisine and of course amazing Australian beaches. Think “crystal clear water”, gentle lapping waves, and crisp white sand that squeaks under your feet. This of course makes for some beautiful beaches surrounding Bruny Island.

There are of course many great beaches around the island, and you know we sampled a few, however our favourite was undoubtedly the little cove of Hanssons Beach, Located on south Bruny, this beach was nearby the popular Adventure Bay. However, we found Hanssons Beach was definitely quieter, had blue-er and clearer waters, whiter sand, and definitely was our preference. Don’t expect Mediterranean warm waters, but the refreshing clear water is worth a swim.

In particular, summer and shoulder season e.g. Autumn, represents a great time to check out Bruny Island’s gorgeous nature and beaches. The entire island is surrounded by beaches, and we definitely stopped multiple times to check out little coves and have a swim at new beaches. However, not all beaches are assessable via car, with some of them only reached on “private property” roads or via boats. Note – Bruny Island’s beaches are generally calm, however they are unmanned with no lifeguards. We advise you take appropriate caution, especially if you aren’t a strong swimmer.
