The more you look into where to visit in Poland, the more gems emerge. One such ‘gem’ is the gorgeous town of Wroclaw. Pronounced “vrot-swaaf” in Polish, this city is a little off the radar for some tourists, however definitely holds it own even compared to more popular Krakow and Warsaw. Wroclaw is a safe city filled with a colourful old town, an impressive main square, great food (including excellent Asian cuisine), a beautiful waterside promenade and like much of Poland.. great coffee.. it’s worth adding to your Polish itinerary. Read on for some tips on what to do when you visit Wroclaw.

A few things to do in Wroclaw

Wander the Wroclaw old town

This is the heart of the action, and definitely the most beautiful part of Wroclaw. Like many Polish old towns, it’s colourful, and has an excellent main square, and lots of little alleyways to explore. Spend some time just enjoying the vibe of the old town. In summer there are little market stalls, people sitting in bars on the square, and a great atmosphere. We have heard in winter there are Christmas markets, but check up on this.

Enjoy the multicultural cuisine in Wroclaw

Wroclaw definitely has a more multicultural hospitality scene compared to some cities in the region. There were numerous excellent Asian cuisine options, including Thai and Vietnamese, along with multiple Mexican cantinas. You will also find tasty Polish food. This was an unexpected surprise in Wroclaw.

A few excellent places to eat in Wroclaw:
  • Lots of asian.. Try Pan Pot, or Pha Tha Thai
  • Lots of Mexican .. Try Panczo Śniadaniownia
  • Budget option – Restauracja Lepione Kuźnicza Wrocław. Eat with the locals in a tasty cafeteria priced by weight (6.59PLN for 100g). A good mix of Polish cuisine and other options.

Go gnome hunting

The ‘Krasnale wrocławskie’, or Wroclaw dwarves, are scattered all around the old town. There are a reported 400-700 gnomes around the city, and this is one of the most fun things to do on your visit to Wroclaw. There are guides online about where to find the Gnomes, however you will easily see many of them just walking through the streets, alleyways, climbing the towers and even in shop windows.

Enjoy the best view in Wroclaw at Bridge of Penitents

Climb the tower in the heart of the old town to reach the Wroclaw Bridge of Penitents. Here you will find an incredible view (and some gnomes). The cost is 18PLN/4.5euro for entry. Be prepared there are a lot of stairs.

Enjoy the view from Bastion Ceglarski and the Immersyjny Punkt Widokowy promenade

Around 10-15 minutes walk out of the Wroclaw old town is a beautiful riverside promenade (Immersyjny Punkt Widokowy) and views of Ostro Tumski (a suburb across the river). This is a great place for a walk, cycle, run or even to sit with a snack and enjoy the view.

Cross the bridge and check out Ostro Tumski Wrocław

A charming little area that feels like a time capsule. The is a well preserved main street, and the impressive Wroclaw Cathedral. It’s only a short walk from the Wroclaw old town and definitely worth checking out on your visit.

Taste some of the best coffee in Wroclaw

Like much of Poland, the café scene in Wroclaw was excellent. We have listed a few excellent cafes below worthing checking out for good coffee.
